From OC to University and Abroad With Vecksle Drake
Meet Vecksle Drake, a cast member of the Prime Video series The College Tour.
“When I first came to Olympic College, I wasn’t sure I was cut out for it,” Vecksle said. It had been many years since he dropped out of high school to take care of his family following his father’s cancer diagnosis. After taking a college success course, Vecksle was off and running. He got involved with OC’s Multicultural Center, joining the English conversation partner program. Vecksle completed an associate degree at OC, then transferred to the University of Washington. Thanks to a direct transfer agreement between the colleges, he was able to declare a major in linguistics right away.
OC has direct transfer agreements with public universities in Washington State including UW, Gonzaga, and the University of Washington. These agreements allow students to seamlessly transfer their credits.
With his experience at the Multicultural Center, Vecksle landed a teaching internship in Mongolia. He completed a BA in linguistics from UW, and he’s now applying for a Master’s program to teach English to speakers of other languages.
